Wishing You All a Merry Christmas

From everyone at the Post Office Shop we wish you all a very Merry Christmas.

Over the course of 2016 we have brought you an array of stories celebrating various anniversaries and milestones. Here are just a few of the many highlights.

The Queen Celebrated her 90th Birthday

The Queen Becomes the World's Longest Reigning Monarch

In April, Her Majesty the Queen celebrated her 90th birthday. The occasion was marked by the launch of The Queen’s 90th Birthday Coin. Following this momentous occasion, in October Her Majesty also became the World’s Longest Reigning Monarch following the death of King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Singapore.

50 Years Since England Won the World Cup

1966 England World Cup Win Signed Photo Cover

England’s victory in 1966 goes further back in our memories. After the disappointment of Euro 2016 we looked back and reminisced When England Welcomed the World. A £5 Brilliant Uncirculated Coin was produced in collaboration with The Football Association. A donation to the Booby Moore Fund is made with every coin purchased.

A Sporting Underdog Summer

Leicester City win the Premiership

2016 was a strange year for sport. Football proved it was a “funny old game” as Leicester City became champions of the Premier League and Iceland beat England in Euro 2016. We celebrated A Sporting Underdog Summer and now look forward to what surprises 2017 may hold.

Agatha Christie Remembered

Agatha Christie

The Queen of Crime Fiction was remembered in a set of stamps to commemorate 40 years since her death and the 100th anniversary of her writing her first novel, The Mysterious Affair at Styles. As with anything associated with Christie, these stamps contain their own mysteries for you to discover.

Their Name Liveth for Evermore

Remembrance Day Lest We Forget

July marked the 100th anniversary of the Battle of the Somme. In November, Remembrance Day was marked with the annual service and parade at the Cenotaph. Every year, The Royal Mint marks Remembrance Day with a coin and this year’s stunning coin featured a wreath of poppies in bold red and the inscription Their Name Liveth for Evermore.
