Win Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland Pin Badges
To commemorate 120 years since the death of Lewis Carroll, we are giving away five sets of the Alice in Wonderland Pin Badge collection.
These pin badges are created from the actual stamp artwork from the Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland Special Stamp collection. This 2015 collection celebrates the 150th anniversary of the publication of Lewis Carroll’s most famous work, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.
Fans of Lewis Carroll will also be delighted to know that an Alice and the White Rabbit Framed Stamp illustration is still available to buy. It is part of the Framed Stamps collection at the Post Office Shop.
The Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland Pin Badges Designs
The illustrations for the stamps were created by Grahame Baker-Smith. He is the author/illustrator whose picture book FArTHER won the Kate Greenaway award for book illustration in 2011.
The White Rabbit
The 2nd class stamp design shows the legendary white rabbit leading young Alice on an extraordinary adventure that changes her life forever. She is shown in hot pursuit of the White Rabbit away from a sunny but boring day by the river with her sister.
The 1st class stamp design shows Alice finding a bottle of potion with a label that has “Drink Me” written on it. Alice drinks the magic potion but ends up shrinking as a result.
On the 81p stamp design, the Cheshire Cat is shown resting on a tree branch with that ever-present grin on his face. He warns Alice that everyone in Wonderland is mad and points her in the direction of the Hatter and the March Hare.
A Mad Tea-Party
This 81p stamp design sees Alice at the bewildering tea party with the Hatter, the March Hare and poor Dormouse. The Hatter offers Alice some wine that he doesn’t have and goes on to ask her a riddle he has no answer to.
The Game of Croquet
This £1.28 stamp design depicts a game of croquet. However, this is no ordinary croquet match. The mallets are flamingos, the balls are hedgehogs and the hoops are the Queen of Heart’s soldiers bend over backwards. Poor Alice finds the game a challenge because all the equipment has a habit of moving around of its own accord.
