Wallace and Gromit Coin on the Way – Say Cheese!

It’s time to say “Cheese!” as the Royal Mint have teased the arrival of a brand-new Wallace and Gromit Coin!

A quick peek at their website reveals that the iconic animated duo of Wallace and Gromit will be featuring on a new release from the Royal Mint, with many suggesting that a more detailed follow up announcement will be made in the next weeks, containing more information on how collectors can get their hands on a Wallace and Gromit Coin!

The news is likely to delight fans of children’s Film and Television coin issues such as The Gruffalo and Paddington Bear and could prove to be another hot commodity for more general coin collectors too, as special themed coin issues always have the potential to sell over their usual price once they’ve been launched.

But for some of you reading this, you may be wondering just who Wallace and Gromit are and what all the fuss is about.

Well, let us fill you in on why this could be yet another highly anticipated coin issue for 2019!

Wallace and Gromit – British Cultural Icons

Wallace and Gromit

It’s not too bold to say that Wallace and Gromit have become one the UK’s best loved television and film duos since their debut in 1989.

Created by Nick Park and produced by Aardman Animation, Wallace and Gromit originally began as a series of four short films and one feature-length film, but their soaring popularity has seen other spin offs and adaptations for TV put into production over the years also.

Centering around the zany life of Wallace, a well natured, friendly, cheese loving inventor and his canine companion, a silent yet intelligent and loyal dog, Gromit, the pair’s crazy capers and wacky tales have received critical acclaim, not just in the British public’s eyes, but internationally too.

The first three films in the series – ‘A Grand Day Out’, ‘The Wrong Trousers’ and ‘A Close Shave’ all boast 100% positive ratings on the film and television ratings website Rotten Tomatoes.

And perhaps even more impressively, the very first feature-length film in the Wallace and Gromit universe, ‘The Curse of the Were-Rabbit’ is the second highest-grossing stop motion animation film to have ever been created, only bested by ‘Chicken Run’, another of Nick Park’s beloved creations.

Wallace and Gromit’s influence hasn’t only spread to our television sets and cinema screen but has also had a direct impact on the wider community too!

Both the characters of Wallace and Gromit have helped to spearhead fundraising for two children’s charities – Wallace & Gromit’s Children’s Foundation and Wallace and Gromit’s Grand Appeal.

What Will Be Featured on the Wallace and Gromit Coin?

The details as to what images or wording will be featured on the brand-new Wallace and Gromit Coin are being kept top secret for now, but we’ve heard and seen a few theories as to just what could be included on the design.

Could we see an object from where it all started for the Wensleydale loving duo in the form of the wacky ‘Wrong Trousers’ invention?

Or perhaps we could flip over the coin to find a nicely cut piece of Wensleydale Cheese staring us in the face instead?

Keeping things simpler, it could be the case that the coin includes a portrait style photo of the pair, with Wallace cracking his signature cheesy smile and Gromit adopting a more casual facial expression.

All will be revealed soon enough and we personally can’t wait to see what the Royal Mint have in store for this highly anticipated release.

More cheese, Gromit?
