Today Is Comic Relief Red Nose Day!

Today Is Comic Relief Red Nose Day!

It’s finally here, today is Red Nose Day and we are all being asked to wear one of these instantly recognisable bright red noses to join in the fun whilst also raising money for disadvantaged people in the UK and across Africa. This year’s noses come in nine different styles from a vampire to a professor and all feature toes too.

Since the first Red Nose Day took place in 1988, the red plastic noses themselves we are all encouraged to wear on the day have evolved somewhat. Starting out from the simple, plain red nose, the third red nose featured hands added to the design. Red Nose Day in 1995 featured an orange coloured blob as opposed to a red one. 2001 saw the noses include faces for the first time whilst more recent versions have even seen the red noses feature mohican hair dos!

It promises to be an epic night of essential TV viewing when presenters Davina McCall and Lenny Henry host a six-hour marathon sure to be packed with laughter thanks to the return of classic shows including Little Britain, Mr Bean and The Vicar Of Dibley.

PG Tips is one of the official partners of Red Nose Day. And Monkey is hoping to raise £1 million for the annual charity event all by himself.  The much adored mascot of PG Tips Tea has successfully clambered to the top of The Shard which is Europe’s tallest building at a mind boggling 87 floors and 308 metres high! It was very apt to see that he enjoyed a well-earned cup of tea to celebrate his achievement!

Comic Relief has raised a total of £960 million for charity over the past 30 years with the proceeds used to support 12 million vulnerable and disadvantaged people across the UK and Africa.

This year marks the 30th anniversary of the first Comic Relief event when the initiative was first launched on Christmas Day 1985 on Noel Edmonds’ Late Late Breakfast Show. And Red Nose Day 2015 will almost certainly see monies raised push beyond the £1 billion pound mark.

So why not do your bit and make your face funny for charity this Red Nose Day and then be entertained by a whole host of familiar faces from the world of television on BBC One from 7 pm tonight. You nose it makes sense!
