Thinking Outside The Box When It Comes To Small Parcels!
Today marks the start of when a small parcel size just got bigger – and that means a potential saving of £5.20 for customers posting presents to friends and relatives this Christmas!
People previously requiring mailing boxes classified as ‘medium’ can now post an item which is deemed a ‘small’ parcel following the changes, enabling them to make a 65% cost saving per item!
A small parcel is now classified as having the following dimensions: 45cm x 35cm x 16cm (25.2 litres) with a maximum weight of 2kg. That’s nearly double the size it was before!
The previous sizes of what were deemed a ‘small’ parcel: 45cm x 35cm x 8cm (12.6 litres) and 35cm x 25cm x 16cm (14litres), are no longer recognised.
Of course with Christmas coming up fast, it is great news that, as part of the promotion, second class small parcels weighing up to two kilos will all cost just £2.80 compared to £8.00 previously when it would have been classed as ‘medium’ size – this rate applies all the way through to 18th January 2015. From 19th January 2015, the cost will increase back up from £2.80 to £3.80.
It is important to remember that if the weight of a parcel goes over 2kg, a parcel will still count as a medium size. A medium mailing box can be used to send parcels up to 20kg in weight and large mailing box is ideal for sending items that weigh up to 30kg.
The new, larger ‘small’ parcel size is ideal for sending those flat items like books and clothing, indeed all those items which aren’t suitable for sending in an envelope. The countdown to Christmas will soon be well and truly ON! So it’s worth bearing in mind the last posting dates this year for all these mailing boxes packed full of festive cheer as detailed in our handy guide.
