Stephen Hawking 50p Will Be Out of This World!
The latest Royal Proclamation has announced that a new Stephen Hawking 50p will be issued by the Royal Mint this month – and it’s set to be out of this world!
If you’re an avid coin collector or just a fan of specially commissioned coins, then there’s a real treat in store later this month!
Celebrated as one of the world’s most acclaimed physicists and ambassadors for science, Professor Stephen Hawking is set to be featured on a brand-new Stephen Hawking 50p.
Following in the recent footsteps of the Gruffalo coin release and the Snowman coin launched in Christmas 2018, the Stephen Hawking 50p will pay a much deserved tribute to one of the greatest and most loved British scientists of modern times.
What Will the Stephen Hawking 50p Look Like?
As with many of their commemorative coin releases, the Royal Mint have been careful to ensure that further details regarding the Stephen Hawking 50p are kept well under wraps until launch day.
However, Change Checker have reported that the coin design will match his eloquent nature and much of the extensive work he helped to carry out.
They mention that the design will feature a highly stylized depiction of one of his most famous theories, the Black Hole. It will also feature an artistic depiction of the revolutionary scientist himself.
Along with this, the coin inscription will display “STEPHEN HAWKING” and will also contain another of his famous research areas, the entropy equation.
When Will the Stephen Hawking 50p Be Available?
It’s believed by various media outlets such as from Cambridge News that the Stephen Hawking 50p will become available to order on the 12th of March.
Whilst no official images have been released or confirmation has been given on how long it will be available for, the Stephen Hawking 50p will certainly be another popular commemorative coin release.
Interestingly, the proposed date of release, 12th of March, will mark two days before the one-year anniversary of his unfortunate passing on 14th of March 2018.
With the launch of the Stephen Hawking 50p taking place during British Science Week, it’s a fitting tribute to a man who single handedly helped to alter people’s perceptions whilst making many groundbreaking scientific theories in the process.
