Special Stamp Calendar for 2018
Royal Mail has announced the 2018 Special Stamp programme, This year, the Special Stamp Calendar continues to showcase the “Best of British” in a varied range of subjects.
The Royal Mail’s Special Stamp programme has been running for over 50 years. Events and anniversaries relevant to UK heritage and life are commemorated, with every UK stamp design approved by Her Majesty the Queen.
All of this year’s stamps will be available at the Post Office Shop when they are released within our extensive Special Stamps range.
This March sees the nation celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Royal Air Force. The Royal Mail has worked with the RAF and RAF Museum to create a set of ten stamps featuring aircraft from the past 100 years.
The Royal Flying Corps (RFC) was the air arm of the British Army. Formed in 1912 it merged with the Royal Naval Air Service on 1 April 1918 to form the Royal Air Force. It is the oldest independent air force in the world and the RAF has played a significant role in British military history.
Six stamps will depict six iconic aircraft from the past 100 years. In addition, four more stamps will pay tribute to the RAF Red Arrows aerobatic team, renowned all over the world for their speed, agility and precision.
In April, the Reintroduced Species Special Stamps features the work of scientists and conservationists who have successfully reintroduced once extinct species back to our shores. Six species are featured in this collection including the Large Blue Butterfly and the Osprey.
Don’t panic, you will only have to wait until June to get your hands on this Special Stamp set to celebrate the 50th birthday of Dad’s Army. Still much loved, this comedy series still has audiences reeling in laughter as Captain Mainwaring tries to assert his authority on his band of men.
The leading characters will be celebrated in this latest range of eight Special Stamps to celebrate a TV classic.
First World War: 1918
September, see the culmination of a five-year landmark series by the Royal Mail marking centenaries of World War One.
This final set will feature a new interpretation of the poppy image, war poetry and art, and a commemoration of the sacrifice of the armed services.
The Game of Thrones™ Stamp Collection is Coming
Whilst we wait patiently for the final series of the worldwide hit HBO TV series, the Game of Thrones Stamp Collection is to be released on 23rd January 2018.
With the principal filming of the show taking place at the Titanic Studios in Belfast, this stamp collection celebrates the British contribution to Game of Thrones both in the production and cast.
The ten stamps feature characters from houses Stark, Targaryen, Lannister and Tyrell. In addition, the Stamp Sheet features The Night King and White Walkers, Giants, Direwolves, Dragons and the much-coveted Iron Throne.
More Stamp Releases to be Announced
