Singing Postboxes – Have You Found One Yet?
If you notice something a bit different when posting your cards and letters this Christmas, it could be due to some singing postboxes!
Fancy some seasonal joy on your way to the postbox this Christmas time? Then you could be in luck as the Royal Mail have installed several singing postboxes around the UK! The postbox designs feature striking snowflake patterns and a ‘snow-frosted’ white painted top. They are easy to spot, so be on the lookout when you make your delivery of cards, letters and parcels over the festive period!
Singing Postboxes Bringing Christmas Cheer
Not only are the postboxes decorated in a way that Santa Claus himself would be proud of, but they contain a little hidden feature – they sing to you too! A motion sensor inside the postbox means that any oncoming approach will trigger one of many festive greetings. They could treat you to the therapeutic sounds of Christmas sleigh bells or you might even be fortunate enough to receive a cheery message from Father Christmas himself wishing you a Merry Christmas!
We’re launching four ‘singing’ #postboxes in locations across the UK this week. You’ll have the chance to hear festive jingles break out as you post your letters!

Continuing to Deliver Christmas
Spokesperson at Royal Mail, Julie Pirone, comments on how the singing postboxes bring some festive cheer to the delivery of Christmas cards and letters this year:
“This is our busiest time of year, so just to make it a bit more festive we thought we would put four boxes around the UK where people can get some Christmas cheer. Santa might wish you a merry Christmas, you might hear sleigh-bells or just some nice festive tunes as your post your cards.”
Echoing these sentiments is Simon Barker, Operations Director at Royal Mail, who adds:
“Delivering Christmas is our absolute priority this December. In the process, we enjoy any way we can add a little extra fun to posting Christmas cards this year.”
Singing Postbox Locations
Currently, the singing postboxes have been installed in several different locations across the UK. As of the time of writing, the seasonal postboxes are in place at:
- London – Greenwich Promenade, London, SE10 9HT
- Cardiff – 29 Queen Street, Cardiff, CF10 2AH
- Belfast – 4 Wellington Place, Belfast, BT1 6GE
- Edinburgh – 137-141 High Street, Edinburgh, EH1 1SG
Don’t worry if you don’t see your current location listed though, as the Royal Mail have said they are considering rolling out more of their joyful singing postboxes to other areas throughout December.
Keep your eyes peeled!
