Royal Mint Release Paddington Bear 50p Coin that Sold for £16k on eBay
Royal Mint releases new Paddington Bear 50p coin in celebration of Paddington’s 60th anniversary, after the same leaked coin sold for £16k on eBay.
The unreleased coin was found last week in Caerphilly, south Wales by college student Jordan Mcilquham. The student found the leaked coin in her change during a quick shopping trip before selling online for £16,000 after The Royal Mint confirmed that it was genuine. Collectors flocked to the auction website in a bid to claim the unique coin.
It is rumoured that the coin could have accidentally ended up in the pocket of someone at Royal Mint, which is situated just 10 minutes from Caerphilly in a town called Llantrisant. The official details of the new coin, which is in commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the first ever Paddington Bear book, had not yet been announced to the public before the 50p coin leaked.
Since the leak, The Royal Mint have disclosed information of two other versions of the celebratory coin, which are expected to be on sale to the general public on Monday 18th June. The coins will feature one coloured and one silver coin of the same design.
The classic shiny coins are expected to be a huge hit with coin collectors. Collectors can expect to own their own Paddington Bear coin from as little as £10 – quite a drastic price drop in comparison to £16,000!
In the meantime, you can jump on the Paddington Bear hype by gifting the wonderful children in your life with a Paddington Bear Mix and Match Numbered Card Game. This card game will provide hours of endless fun for the family in anticipation for the 60th anniversary of Paddington Bear.
Similar to the anniversary of Paddington Bear, the Royal Mint have also recently released a series of stamps in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Royal Air Force. Here at the Post Office Shop, there are endless stamp and coin collectibles to suit both the aspiring and expert collector.
