Merry Christmas Everyone
As we get ready to enjoy all the festivities we would like to thank you all for your support over the past year. Merry Christmas everyone.
But before we start driving home for Christmas, as the song goes, we thought we’d have a look back at 2017. We have brought you an array of stories and trivia over the past year and look forward to bringing you more in 2018.
It has been another eventful year for the Royal Family. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge announced that they are expecting a third child in April 2018 and only last month, Prince Harry announced his engagement to Meghan Markle. We all look forward to 19th of May 2018 for their Royal Wedding.
Royal Wedding Platinum Anniversary
In addition, the Queen and Prince Philip celebrated their Royal Wedding Platinum Anniversary.
This momentous occasion has been marked by the release today of a special set of Royal Wedding Platinum Anniversary stamps. The six stamps feature images from 1947. Two stamps feature photos from the Royal Engagement, two from the Royal Wedding and two from the Royal Honeymoon.
World Cup Cricket Winners
OK, so we may have lost The Ashes in Australia earlier this week. However back in July, England’s Women’s Cricket team won the Women’s Cricket World Cup Final. Their success was marked last weekend when they were named Team of the Year in the BBC Sports Personality of the Year awards.
Check the Round Pound in Your Pocket
We bid farewell to the round pound this year. However, we advised you all to Check the Round Pound in Your Pocket. Throughout the year, the press has been full of stories of pound coins exchanging hands for way more than their face value. The new twelve-sided pound coins are also becoming collectors’ items. To find out more take a look at our Rare Twelve Sided Pound Coins article from September 2017.
Baking is Good for You
We were delighted to hear the news that Baking is Good for You. The smell of a cake or bread baking in the oven releases endorphins that boosts happiness and reduces stress levels. So if all the festivities get too much for you next week, hide in the kitchen and bake a cake.
