Important Events Happening in 2019

After a year in which the country celebrated two Royal Weddings, marked the Centenary of the RAF and in which GDPR was introduced, what important events will be happening in 2019?

Now that the Christmas Pudding has been eaten and the New Year’s celebrations have concluded, it’s time to look forward at some of the important events that are happening in 2019. 2019 is shaping up to be another big year across sport, politics, history and entertainment so let’s take a closer look at what’s coming up!

The Six Nations Championship Begins

Whilst the country was gripped with the excitement of the World Cup last year, it can be expected that the nation will once again will be cheering on their sporting heroes when the Rugby Six Nations tournament kicks off on the 1st of February. Now in its 125th year, the 2019 Six Nations Championship will see the nations of France, England, Italy, Scotland, Wales and the defending champions Ireland all competing to take home the coveted Six Nations Championship Trophy before the tournament concludes on the 16th of March.


Providing the rulings and decision behind Britain’s departure from the EU doesn’t experience any further delays, Brexit will take place on the 29th of March at 11pm UK time. Stemming from a referendum which took place on the 23rd of June 2016, Brexit will see the United Kingdom break off from the European Union after a percentage of 51.89% of the UK public voted for the country to officially leave and revoke its membership as part of the EU. The past few years since have seen a wide amount of speculation regarding what this will mean for the UK dominate the headlines, but until March, we won’t know for sure the resulting effects.

75th Anniversary of the D-Day Landings

Known as one of the biggest military land, sea and air operations to have ever been undertaken, the 75th Anniversary of the D-Day landings will take place on the 6th of June. Veterans from the World Wars, their families and the public will commemorate 75 years since Allied troops made their landings onto the beaches of Normandy and gave their lives in a hellacious event which saw more than 10,000 casualties within the Allied Forces during the strategic operation. The historic event laid the foundations for an eventual victory for the Allied Forces on the Western Front and the conclusion of the Second World War in 1945.

A New Royal Baby

Perhaps one of the biggest surprises to come from 2018 and lead into 2019 is the announcement of a new Royal Baby on its way. Expected in the season of Spring, the exciting news of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s baby, broke in October 2018 during a formal announcement by Kensington Palace. After a memorable Royal Wedding in May and a recent 16 day tour of Australia, New Zealand, Fiji and Tonga, there’s certainly been some exciting times for the Royal Couple already and 2019 is set to continue this trend!

Star Wars™ Episode 9 Is Released


In what will seem like an agonizingly long wait for Star Wars fanatics everywhere, the third and final installment of the current Star Wars™ sequel trilogy will be released on the 19th of December. With no official title being announced as of yet, this impending release will certainly have fans chomping at the bit as they await the continuation to the epic adventures of Rey, Finn and the iconic Luke Skywalker. With the only details released regarding the film being that it will be set one year after the The Last Jedi, speculation will be rife on how the much-loved sci-fi film franchise will conclude.
