Comedy Greats Special Stamps Issued To Mark April Fool’s Day
When it comes to identifying comedy greats, who would be on your list? A special stamp collection has been released today to mark April Fool’s Day including a retail stamp book, stamp cards and a presentation pack which all depict some famous British comedians dating back from the 1950’s to the present day.
Honoured in a selection of special stamps are some of the most popular and funniest comedians of the last few decades including Morecambe and Wise who were recognised as one of the best known double acts in the world of entertainment for over forty years.
The Two Ronnies is recalled as one of the BBC’s flagship comedy programmes of its era during the 1970’s and 1980’s and Ronnie Corbett has been promoting the new stamp issue which includes a picture of the Four Candles sketch for which they are fondly remembered.
Spike Milligan, who delighted several generations with his subversive brand of humour is also amongst those included in these special stamps along with Billy Connolly CBE who is arguably the greatest stand-up comedian of all time. ‘The Big Yin’ still captivates audiences having made a seamless transition from folk-singer in a band called ‘The Humblebums’ to then pursue a career as a comedian.
Also featuring Norman Wisdom, comic relief host Lenny Henry, Peter Cook and Dudley Moore, Monty Python, French and Saunders and Victoria Wood, every aspect of the nation’s taste in comedy is represented in these special stamps.
They are certainly all first class acts in their way and it’s apt they have been recognised and appear in the Comedy Greats collectible stamp series.
Royal Mail is issuing a special postmark across the country from today to mark this stamp set and it’s also worth keeping an eye out for delivery vans in areas with strong links to each of these comedians as they will be featuring an image of the relevant stamp!
