The Best Presents to Send Abroad to Loved Ones
Ali Lawler provides some great ideas for the best presents to send abroad to loved ones in our latest Guest Blog article.
Do you have a relative or a friend who lives overseas?
A recent survey has revealed that about 5.5 million British people live permanently abroad, and the numbers are expected to rise within the next few years.
As more people are going elsewhere for job opportunities or retirement, it’s important to strengthen the bonds of family and friendship through constant communication and acts of thoughtfulness.
Sending presents or packages to your loved ones will show them how much you care, and it’s a nice gesture that will bring back memories of home.
Here are the best presents to send abroad to your loved ones.
The Best Presents to Send Abroad
Sweets and Chocolates
If you’re sending food items abroad, the most important thing to remember is not to send anything that is classed as perishable, such as meat or cheese.
However, anything that is packaged in a tin or in a jar, or any food in the manufacturer’s original packaging is alright, so you can send your loved ones cookies or their favourite tea.
Chocolates or other classic British Sweets such as Candy Kittens, Cadbury’s Flake or Cadbury’s Curly Wurly are also a big hit amongst those with a sweet tooth, as it’s difficult to find these food items outside the UK.
To ensure that these items are packed well, protect jars and other eatables with bubble wrap, then place them inside a cardboard mailing box from Post Office Shop.
Check for any empty spaces, and fill with packaging paper to prevent products from being jostled while in transit.
Cosmetics and Skincare Products
Makeup and skincare products from British brands are always in demand among beauty and skincare enthusiasts living abroad, so make sure to send your friends and relatives a few of these items.
Lipsticks from Charlotte Tilbury, cruelty-free products from Illamasqua, and bath products from Molton Brown are sure to impress your loved ones, so spoil them a little with these treats.
Make sure that all the original packaging is sturdy enough to withstand an overseas flight, and avoid sending perfume as it contains alcohol, which is restricted for shipping.
For a great alternative, you can sign your loved one up for a subscription box so they can get their hands on a curated selection of cosmetics on a monthly basis.
You can even find subscription boxes that feature British makeup, so your friend or favourite cousin can be treated to different products every month.
Classic Clothing and Novelty Items
Most British people own a piece of clothing from classic brands such as Marks & Spencer, Top Shop and Dorothy Perkins, as these shops carry wardrobe staples that are fit for every lifestyle.
You can send your loved ones anything from shirts to dresses and scarves from these brands, but you can also send them novelty items that can’t be found anywhere else.
For instance, Primark carries a Harry Potter line of products that include bedding, socks and pyjamas, among others, so if you have several family members living abroad, giving each of them something from this line can make gift shopping easier for you, especially if you’re shopping with the upcoming holiday season in mind.
Apart from these items, other gifts that will surely draw raves from your friends and family members include British memorabilia that they can use to decorate their home, British-themed key rings and toys for the little ones.
Sending gifts to your loved ones abroad will help you connect with your favourite people from afar, and the presents that you choose will give them fond memories of home.
Try sending any of these gift ideas, and don’t forget to include your love with every package that you send out.
