Win a Gift from the Tooth Fairy
Today is National Tooth Fairy Day and so to celebrate we have a new giveaway. Two lucky winners will receive a To Keep and To Spend Tooth Fairy Box with a Lucky Silver Penny.
The legend of the mysterious tooth fairy goes back hundreds of years It is thought to originate with the Vikings. Superstitious Norsemen believed teeth brought good luck in battle. As a result, they would wear children’s teeth on strings around their necks.
However, it was not until 1927 that the first recognizable pixie like figure was seen in print in Esther Watkins Arnold’s play “The Tooth Fairy”. Today, the tooth fairy has the same mystery to children as Father Christmas and the Easter Bunny.
How Much Does the Tooth Fairy Leave Under the Pillow?
For parents, the tooth fairy can be an expensive business. In a survey about the tooth fairy, it was found that the average amount left under a child’s pillow is £2.10. This is a rise of 60p in five years.
Children in London receive the most money per tooth, £2,50 on average. Whereas, children in Newcastle only receive £1.00.
One in ten children receive £10 to £200 for a full set of 20 milk teeth. Yet, 8% of children never receive a visit from the tooth fairy.
Ironically, the most popular thing for children to spend their tooth fairy money on is, sweets.
