Do You Have a Rare Guy Fawkes Coin?

Remember, remember to check your change. A rare Guy Fawkes £2 coin is fetching hundreds of pounds due to a minting error.

The 2005 Gunpowder Plot £2 coin was released to mark the 400th anniversary of the plan to blow up the Houses of Parliament.  Its design shows a mace, crosier and sword, the symbols of the state which represent the survival of the British government following the failed treason attempt by Guy Fawkes and his conspirators in 1605.

Along the side of the coin, the infamous rhyme, “Remember, Remember the Fifth of November” is inscribed. However, a small number of coins feature a spelling mistake, and read, “Pemember, Pemember the Fifth of November”.

Currently, 372 of these coins are listed on eBay, fetching up to £500 per coin. Whilst the Royal Mint has not confirmed how many are in circulation with this error, it is thought this Guy Fawkes £2 is rarer than the Kew Gardens 50p, featured in our article Do You Have a Rare 50p Worth £100?
