Get Popping, It’s Bubble Wrap Appreciation Day!
Let’s face it, who doesn’t like popping bubble wrap?! If ever there was a day to undertake this somewhat bizarre, yet surprisingly therapeutic ritual, today would be the day!
That’s because today is designated Bubble Wrap Appreciation Day when we can all celebrate the dual purpose of this multi-purpose puffy plastic sheeting.
It’s actually the 15th annual event to salute our favourite packing material which was invented way back in 1957 by two engineers, namely Alfred Fielding and Marc Chavannes.
Bubble wrap was originally embraced by businesses like IBM during the 1960’s who initially used it to protect shipments of the 1401 Data Processing System as well as consumers using it as a method of wallpapering. From there word of mouth led to everyone embracing the novel material as a means of packaging and mailing everyday items.
Still widely-used for protecting fragile items during transit, bubble wrap is also highly addictive as a way of de-stressing, simply by popping sheet after sheet of the stuff! In fact according to research we’ve seen, popping bubble wrap for just over one minute can provide stress relief equivalent to a 33-minute massage!
But the uses of bubble wrap stretch much further than this! Amongst the other suggestions we have here at the Post Office Shop for what bubble wrap can be used for in the home, it is supposed to be effective for insulating a drafty window which is always very useful at this time of year.
Another novel way of using bubble wrap that many of us may not have thought of, is for wall protection where a door knob makes regular contact with a wall causing marks and minor damage.
Whatever use you have in mind for it today, why not join in and celebrate Bubble Wrap Appreciation Day!
