Love Will Be In The Air This Saturday
Love will certainly be in the air this weekend as Valentine’s Day, the most romantic day of the year, is almost upon us once again.
Whilst all of us are familiar with the notion that it is an unrivalled date in the calendar for showing love and affection to the special person in our lives, how many of us know the background to how Valentine’s Day started and also how it got its name?
Valentine’s Day actually gets its name from a famous saint though there are actually a few conflicting stories of who this was! But the most widely held theory is that St Valentine was a priest from Rome in the third century AD who fell in love whilst in jail. He had been sent to the cells as his punishment for arranging marriages in secret.
Believed to have originated from a Roman festival called ‘Lupercalia’ where boys and girls were paired together as part of the celebrations, Valentine’s Day gradually became embraced by people everywhere as way of expressing their feelings of love they had for someone else.
We also learn that during the Middle Ages, February 14th was identified as the date in the diary which marked the beginning of birds’ mating season which further accelerated the notion that it should be designated as a romantic day.
Figures from the Greeting card Association estimate that around one billion Valentine’s Day cards are sent each year making it the second largest card-sending occasion of the entire year, second only to Christmas.
Certainly there are no excuses for forgetting the date! So whether it’s a reminder to make sure a card and gift are purchased for that someone special, or whether it’s for writing them a heart-felt romantic message, the Post-It Heart Z-Note Dispenser with pad is the perfect stationery accessory for Valentine’s Day!
