Ellen Green-Blue Badge Company Q&A – Part 2
Director Ellen Green recently appeared on Dragons’ Den seeking £70,000 for a 7% equity in the Blue Badge Company which produces a range of attractive living aids and accessories for people with disabilities.
Ellen received offers from three of the Dragons but eventually she walked away from the Den empty-handed. Following on from the first part of our Q&A with Ellen recently published on the Post Office Shop blog, in the second part of our interview she reveals who has been the biggest inspiration to her. Ellen also discusses the brand she most admires as well as some advice she has for budding entrepreneurs and her vision for the Blue Badge Company.
Who has been your biggest inspiration in business and why?
I’m inspired by people who do things their own way, whom challenge the status quo and follow their own path. My Gran, who is 85, has lived by herself for over 15 years and has fought hard for her independence. She has been a huge inspiration for my business and the products we produce. She has overcome many adversities in her life and has really encouraged me to pursue my goals.
‘Made in the UK’ is an integral part of the company’s brand identity. Which other UK based brand do you most admire and why?
I really admire fellow Bristol businessman and previous Dragons’ Den contestant Rob Law and his brand Trunki. I love Trunki’s range of children’s travel products and they have now moved the manufacturing back to the UK. Rob had a rough time in the Den and never received investment, however this has not deterred him and he has built an amazing international business that has grown significantly each year. I very much hope we will follow a similar path!
What would be your top tips for budding entrepreneurs considering setting up their own business?
The best bit of advice I would give for anyone wanting to start up and grow a company is to take as much advice as possible, be persistent and learn to love rejection! As there will be plenty of it. I’ve learnt to react positively to even the most negative situations.
What is your vision for where the Blue Badge Company will be in five years time?
Our vision is to continue extending our product offering and build an international brand by creating innovate products that improve peoples’ experience of everyday life. Blue Badge Company will be the first brand to transcend the high-end competitive gift market and the traditionally clinical mobility and healthcare sector.
Here at the Post Office Shop we are delighted to stock a range of blue badge display wallets supplied by the Blue Badge Company.
