Doctor Who Series Nine Begins This Weekend
Doctor Who fans are in for a treat over the next 12 weeks as the hugely popular sci-fi series returns for a ninth series. This Saturday in his second full series as the Doctor, Peter Capaldi will once again encounter a whole array of villains when he plays the role of our favourite Time Lord and travels through time in his TARDIS.
In the eighth series of Doctor Who, Peter Capaldi was making his debut as the new owner of the Tardis following in the footsteps of some distinguished actors who have starred in Britain’s most popular science-fiction programme.
Just like each of the previous eleven timelords as detailed in our Doctor Who timeline who have played the role of Doctor Who over more than fifty years, Peter Capaldi has also developed his own distinct traits during his time as Britain’s most famous Doctor.
During his time as the Doctor thus far, Peter Capaldi has often appeared fierce and aloof whilst wearing his signature dark blue short Crombie-style coat with a red lining. Most often likened to William Hartnell’s First Doctor and Jon Pertwee’s Third Doctor Peter Capaldi has conveyed a slightly chilly demeanor and in his own admission has been ‘more alien than he’s been in a while’.
What can we expect to see in the new series of Doctor Who?
Well all will be revealed when the first episode is broadcast this weekend but in a recent interview Peter Capaldi claims he will be travelling ‘into all types of dark, terrifying and funny places’.
But one thing we certainly won’t expect to see is an on-screen romance between Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman’s Clara Oswald character. As the loyal companion to Doctor Who, Jenna has been the longest serving assistant to the Doctor since the series returned to our screens in 2005 but is expected to leave the BBC series later this year.
