Doctor Who Christmas Special

Christmas just wouldn’t be Christmas without a Doctor Who Christmas Special. The Return of Doctor Mysterio will be on our screens Christmas Day on BBC One at 5.45pm.

It has been a year since Doctor Who was last on TV in the 2015 Christmas Special, The Husbands of River Song.

The Return of Mysterio

This year’s hour-long special begins where last year’s left off. The Doctor and River Song were set to spend one last night together of the planet of Darillium before River’s Death, depicted in the 2008 episode The Forest of the Dead. Luckily for the Doctor and River Song, this night lasts the equivalent of 24 Earth years.

Therefore, this Christmas special, The Return of Mysterio starts 24 years later. The Doctor teams up with a mysterious superhero, The Ghost who is trying to keep New York City safe from an alien attack. Who the actual Doctor Who Villains are in this episode remains to be seen. However, fans can expect a comic-book/Superman feel to the story which is complimented by split screen comic strip effects.

Whilst this episode does not include the Doctor’s new companion, Bill Potts, to be played by Pearl Mackie in the next series scheduled for Spring 2017, he is not alone. A female reporter, in a Lois Lane type role, played by Charity Wakefield is on hand to help the Doctor save the world once more.

There is also a treat for Matt Lucas, in his second Christmas Special as Nardole. The amiable character actually gets to fly the TARDIS!

Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Framed Stamp Set 2013

If you are a Doctor Who fan, the first 11 doctors are remembered in the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Framed Stamp Set. From William Hartnell to Matt Smith, this framed set was produced to celebrate the 50th anniversary of this ground breaking sci-fi show that we have loved since 1963.

Doctor Who Fact

The very first episode of Doctor Who was delayed due to news coverage of the assassination of John F. Kennedy. As they believed many viewers had missed the initial introduction to the series, the BBC re broadcast the episode just before the second episode.
